So I was surprised when pulling into the Hollywood Casino.
After all, I live pretty close to a racino, the Vernon Downs Racino (reviewed here!) and it is a somewhat dumpy gambling establishment with no 'atmosphere,' a very limited selection of games and I tend to only go there because it is a nonsmoking gambling establishment pretty close to me. When we pulled into this casino - or technically, racino - I had fairly low expectations. The first casino we hit was the Hollywood Casino At Penn National Race Course. Despite having a lot to do and needing to prepare for my big trip this week, I surprised my mother by stopping at two casinos in Pennsylvania as we drove up I-81 toward home. Following a ridiculously bad (in a business sense) Star Trek convention that I dealt at in Towson, Maryland last weekend, I was driving home when my mother and I saw signs for two different casinos. I almost always quit while I am ahead and never play more than I can afford to lose, but my biggest problem in relation to casinos is that far too often I go into them at all. Last year, I was bitten by a bug while in Las Vegas and ever since I have been a responsible, if somewhat obsessive, gambler.
The Basics: Fun, but hardly extraordinary, the Hollywood Casino At Penn National Race Course appealed equally to the geek in me as it did to the gambler.
The Good: Good games, Interesting museum, Plenty of dining options
